extended version
Certain lifestyle choices are associated with reduced risk of pancreatic cancer.
Avoid alcohol and smoking
Quitting smoking or not picking up the habit reduces the risk of pancreatic cancer. Abstinence or low alcohol intake is also associated with lower risk.
Eat a healthy diet
Diets rich in fruits and vegetables are associated with a reduced risk of cancer of the pancreas. Diets that limit red meat and processed foods may also lower risks.
A healthy diet can also help ensure a healthy weight which also tends to be protective.
Regular Exercise
Regular exercise can help lower pancreatic cancer risk, and even help maintain the advantages conferred by a healthy weight profile.
Use protective gear if you work with chemicals
If your job involves working with chemicals, wearing protective clothing and gear is important. Some examples of exposures that can increase your risk of getting pancreatic cancer are noted in the section on risk factors. Personal protective equipment includes goggles, gloves, masks, and clothing that covers your body. This protective gear can keep you from being in direct physical contact with the chemicals that may increase your risk.
